Undefeated Champions

The Stoney Creek Steelers/Braves traveled to Toronto's Esther Shiner Stadium on Saturday Nov 9, to take on the  Halton Hills Crimson Tide for the AA COMFL Atom Championship. When these two teams met in the regular season Stoney Creek walked all over the Tide 43-6. Halton must have remembered this because they came storming out the gate scoring a touchdown on their first possession with a 15 yd run by their QB. It didn't take long for S.C to respond as QB Josh Omojofo took the first snap, rounded the corner and blasted off for a 50 yd touchdown to tie the game at 6 a piece. Halton responded with a big drive of their own ending with another TD by their QB, this time a 15 yd run. The Tide tacked on a extra point for the 13-6 lead. On the ensuing possession, Omojafo once again found the hole in the defense, taking off for a 45 yd TD to end the first quarter down one, 13-12.

The Steelers/Braves defense finally stepped up to open the second quarter with a huge stand stopping Halton in its tracks. On the following series, RB Yohan Tshimbalaga sparked the team with a nifty 30 yd run highlighted by a nasty spin move up the sideline. This set the stage for another Omojafo major, this one of 18 yds, Tshimbalaga ran in the extra point for the Steelers/Braves first lead of the game 19-13. With time winding down on the half the Crimson Tide marched the ball all the way down to the 20 yd line before turning the ball over on downs, leaving the Steelers/Braves with enough time to only get off one more play. Unfortunately for the Tide, one more play was all that was needed as Omajafo capped off an amazing first half of play taking the sweep 80yds for his fourth major of the half. This sent the teams to the break with the Steelers/Braves ahead 25-13

As if ending the half in such a spectacular fashion wasn't enough, Omajofo took the opening kickoff back 65 yds for an incredible fifth TD of the game. The game started to slow down at this point with the Tide turning to their beast of an running back who was a load to stop when running up the middle, they used a clock killing drive to put another one in the house making the score 32-19. After turning the ball over on the one yd line the Tide had another chance to pull that much closer, however the Steelers/Braves D-line decided to make their presence felt, highlighted by the big run stuffing plays of Angus Graham and Jakob Breukelman. This series included a huge stop for loss on fourth down. All that was left after this was for the QB to take a few knees and the celebration to start.

Steelers/Braves Head Coach Roy stated after the game that he was skeptical at the beginning of the season about moving to a lower division and how the kids would respond and pay attention. He mentioned that he couldn't believe how great the kids did at stepping up at big moments and playing a brand of smash mouth football that just couldn't be matched. Coach Dave added on that all year their was talk about whether the Steelers/Braves were as good as they hoped to be or if the level of competition, just wasn't up to task. He added that after being tested in playoffs and at the end of the season it proved that the boys earned their spot and were as good as anybody in the league. Quarterback Josh Omojafo was named M.V.P of the game on the strength of his 5 TD
